Good News  (30/11/2009)

We have now received the new mini bus which is funded by the Big Lottery Fund.  The mini bus is an essential transport link for many of our service users,  it enables them to get to community facilities and access services they need.

About Havering Mind

 

Havering Mind was established in 1965 by a group of volunteers to provide some support for local mental health service users. It was entirely volunteer run until 1995 and now employs over 20 full and part-time employees and 63 volunteers who deliver a variety of services. Our staff hold level 2 or level 3 qualifications in Community Mental Health.

 

Facts about Havering Mind

  • Havering Mind is user-led - our management committee has user/carer/ex-user representation with advisors from health and social services etc.
  • Our organisation was awarded the Investors in People reawarded in 2008.
  • Havering Mind sits on all the major local mental health planning groups:
    • Mental Health Partnership Board
    • Children and Adolescent Mental Health Strategy
    • Older person's strategy
    • Carers' strategy
    • Local advocacy group

Our Purpose
Mind works for a better life for everyone with experience of mental distress. Mind does this by:

  • advancing the views, needs and ambitions of people with experience of mental distress
  • promoting inclusions through challenging discrimination
  • influencing policy through campaigning and education
  • inspiring the development of quality services which reflect expressed need and diversity
  • achieving equal civil and legal rights through campaigning and education

Promoting good mental health

  • Havering Mind is actively involved in promoting mental health for all
  • One in Four people in the UK will experience mental distress
  • Stigma and discrimination often prevents people from seeking the help they need
  • Discrimination causes further distress and can hinder recovery
  • There are many myths and misunderstandings surrounding mental illness
  • We can supply the FACTS

 

Havering Mind has a variety of resources which are suitable for use in schools, colleges and workplace settings. We can provide a speaker to visit your group or organisation to promote better mental health awareness.
