Mums Matter Project worker

Please note that we will be reviewing applications and inviting candidates to interview as they apply. We may close the vacancy early if we appoint a suitable candidate, so early applications are encouraged

Main Tasks of the Job:

This is an exciting opportunity to join Mind in Havering, Barking and Dagenham in a key role supporting mums’ perinatal mental health and wellbeing across local communities in partnership with our Mums Matter Lead. The successful post holder will be required to work with a flexible approach to meet the needs of local communities and act as a key point of contact, ensuring the smooth delivery of the Mums Matter programme.

Mums Matter is a structured 8-week course consisting of 2-hourly sessions for mums who are feeling low, stressed, overwhelmed, anxious, or struggling with the transition to motherhood. The course is run by a Lead, with the support of Project Workers. Crèche facilities are provided on-site to enable a protected learning space for all mums accessing the programme.

As a Mums Matter Project Worker, you will work closely with the Mums Matter Lead, overseeing key elements of service delivery and building relationships with individual mums.

This role requires strategic oversight, the ability to manage multiple relationships, and a proactive approach to problem-solving. You will help ensure the programme delivers an early intervention, low-intensity service for those with mild to moderate mental health concerns in the perinatal period and those at risk of developing such issues.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide operational support to the Mums Matter Lead, ensuring smooth programme delivery.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with referral partners, ensuring clear pathways into the service.
  • Manage a caseload of assigned mums, supporting their engagement in the programme.
  • Facilitate group discussions, fostering positive group dynamics and peer relationships.
  • Monitor and manage data collection, ensuring timely and accurate reporting.
  • Represent the programme in multi-agency forums, advocating for the needs of participants.
  • Support the promotion of the service and other Mind Havering, Barking & Dagenham services through outreach and marketing efforts.
  • Act as a safeguarding lead within the programme, ensuring all concerns are appropriately addressed.
  • Contribute to the continuous development of the programme, implementing improvements as needed.
  • Work closely with stakeholders to provide a coordinated multi-agency response to perinatal mental health needs.
  • Ensure compliance with all organisational policies, including safeguarding, data protection, and health and safety.
  • Provide occasional hands-on support within the crèche as needed to strengthen relationships with childcare providers.

General Responsibilities:

  1. Maintain statistics and contribute to monitoring and evaluation reports.
  2. Liaise with outside agencies and members of the public as required.
  3. Comply with health and safety regulations and Mind’s equal opportunities policy.
  4. Attend regular supervision meetings and training as required.
  5. Participate in team meetings and contribute to action planning.
  6. Undertake any other duties relevant to the role, as agreed with the Mums Matter Lead or CEO.

Personal Expectations:

  1. Take responsibility for personal development and utilise reflective practice opportunities.
  2. Be self-aware and proactive in managing workload, ensuring a healthy work-life balance.
  3. Work autonomously while maintaining strong communication with the wider team.
  4. Be flexible and adaptable, responding effectively to changing needs within the programme.
  5. Actively contribute to a positive team culture, supporting colleagues and encouraging collaboration.

Flexibility & Cross-Project Working

As a not-for-profit charity reliant on external funding, our projects and services evolve in response to the changing needs of the communities we serve. As such, all project staff are expected to demonstrate flexibility in their role, including a willingness to work across different projects where needed.

Project workers should have, or be open to developing, transferable skills that allow them to contribute effectively across multiple areas of the organisation. This may include supporting different teams, adapting to new funding priorities, or working with different service user groups. Where necessary, and where their workload allows, staff may be asked to provide cover or be reassigned to different projects to ensure we continue to deliver the best possible support to those who need it.

This collaborative and adaptable approach is key to sustaining our work and making a lasting impact.

This role presents an opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the lives of mothers navigating the perinatal period while developing leadership skills and contributing to the strategic direction of the programme.

Mind Havering, Barking & Dagenham is an equal opportunities employer and values diversity. We welcome applications from all qualified candidates regardless of background.
